Salt & Ember started as two friends pouring candles in a garage in Ericeira. By the time they called me they had a shop, a waiting list and a logo drawn in a hurry. They needed a brand as considered as the scents themselves, without losing the handmade warmth that got them there.
A system, not a logo
Instead of one mark, I built a small family: a calm serif wordmark, a monogram for seals and wax stamps, and a set of line drawings for each scent family. Every new product picks from the same kit, so the founders can launch a candle without calling a designer.
- 01
Wordmark and monogram
Drawn with slightly softened corners, like a candle that has burned for an hour.
- 02
Scent illustrations
Twelve engraved line drawings, one for each note, used on labels, boxes and the website.
- 03
Launch film
A ninety second film shot over two days in the workshop, edited to the rhythm of the pouring.
The launch film led the first campaign and still plays on a loop in the flagship store. The identity won Silver for brand identity at the European Design Awards.
